I just discovered a feature in iTunes. If you select an item in a list (artist, album, etc.) and then type the name of an item in the list, iTunes will scroll up or down to that item. If you don't type fairly quickly it will jump to the first selection of each letter.
I also tested this with typing the first letters of items in Finder. It exhibits the same behavior.
